Answer in the way you feel most comfortable - this will help us change the narrative about independent voters in 2025 and beyond.

Laura Cartwright commented 2024-11-12 13:53:37 -0500I voted Blue and for Harris/Walz team. We drove to ballot box at Mesa AZ community college. I wish our Blue side had supported Gaza and Palestinian support. The ap said our votes were counted. Most people I know said they voted for Harris. But the outcome was no indication of this result. The other side had a landslide, yet I see none of those supposed people celebrating. What Went Weong.

Michael O'Connor commented 2024-11-11 18:21:58 -0500It was an eye-opener into how democracy in America does not work in the interest of the citizen voter. Not only were Independent candidates given outrageous ballot targets to collect (45,000 in NY State), but they were also legally roadblocked from collecting and submitting ballots. Ultimately, the establishment kept all independent candidates off the ballot in NY.

Brandon Flanery commented 2024-11-09 18:04:31 -0500Was excited for ranked voting in Colorado, but it was sponsored by a billionaire and it rewarded rich people for the new primary process. While I’m for ranked voting, the primaries need to be protected.

Marian Rich commented 2024-11-07 14:02:38 -0500I vote in New York City. As a lifelong independent, this was the first time in my life (I’m 68) that there was NO INDEPENDENT OPTION for President on the NYS ballot. (Thanks to Andrew Cuomo and the DP). I was rather disgusted by that! Bad enough we have closed primaries and I cannot participate. I also found it appalling that so many people on the ballot were running unopposed. When I was offered the “I voted early” sticker, I declined. I was not proud that I voted, I was quite outraged by the lack of choice. And frankly, by the lack of a democratic process with the Biden/Harris campaigns and the anointing of Harris as the nominee.

Sarah Clare commented 2024-11-07 04:56:24 -0500Doesn’t matter now America is over. There’s a facsiest in the white house. This country allowed Christians to take what belongs to all Americans and replace it with their hate.

Bob Donlen commented 2024-11-07 03:41:22 -0500It was, as usual, a good experience at my local but, this time I was registered, “Independent”, not “Democrat”. It went smoothly and it was nice to be able to select candidates from different parties. How strange that, now being an Independent, I feel more empowered.

Robert Hand commented 2024-11-06 20:22:59 -0500My experience was great! It’s easier to be an independent voter in Tennessee.

Tiffany Lemmons commented 2024-11-06 20:11:10 -0500I voted Green Party as I don’t support either main stream candidates for Presdient. I very much dislike the idea that voting outside of the two party system is “wasting” your vote. I personally believe it shows that I don’t want either candidate and want something different for our country. I will continue to encourage others to do the same. I voted by dropping off at a ballot box.

Donald Evans commented 2024-11-06 19:32:31 -0500I didn’t vote for either of the leading candidates. We had no say whatsoever in Kemala’s candidacy and Trump, in my opinion, shouldn’t have been allowed on the ballot. Both parties put forth candidates that I couldn’t force myself to vote for.

Daniel Kaufmann commented 2024-11-06 19:22:28 -0500I have been voting for independent candidates since 1971. I remember the single time that an independent was invited to the Presidential Debate, candidate Ross Perot. I am a Libertarian and Voted for Chase Oliver in the 2024 Presidential election. There was a Libertarian candidate running for a State Office in Wyoming and I voted for them as Well. Peace through Strength 🇺🇸☮️

Kirsten Childs commented 2024-11-06 19:06:24 -0500As I entered my polling location, a member of the Harris Team was handing out water bottles. It was unseasonably warm day. I was not offered water when I told them I’m an independent and they immediately turned away from me and kept their water. It’s petty but it happened.

Dannimarie Comeau commented 2024-11-06 19:05:04 -0500I requested a mail-in-ballot in person in Fort Lauderdale, FL in early September. I never received my ballot. I called the election supervisor office multiple times. I requested a ballot again via email prior to the deadline. I considered flying there from where I am working in Charlotte, NC. I was unable to afford the flights and time off. So I was unable to vote. I have been a registered voter since I turned 18 and I have never missed voting in a Presidential election.

Carl Coleman commented 2024-11-06 18:58:55 -0500I’m not an " Independent," I’m a Democrat, because I believe in our party, & the energy we generate. However, in polls, I vote my heart.
This election I worked very hard, costing me alot of money that I can’t
afford. But I have great fear, of Trump & Co. Failure in business, failure as a husband, & a criminal w/little girls & women, I in no way want him in office. No one forced me. Trump’s lying & vindictiveness, was a motivator. Majorly !! -

Valerie Gottschalk commented 2024-11-06 18:49:17 -0500Living in Oregon, a lot of the candidates were a foregone conclusion, but there’s some question about results according to one of our legislators who is on the way out (so far as we know at this point.) Mail in ballots only.. I filled out my ballot and had it in the local drop box the next day as did my son and daughter-in-law who live with me. Waiting to see what the end will be. I will say I was surprised at the # of Trump votes so far.. didn’t win, but there’s hope!

Robert Higgins commented 2024-11-06 18:35:15 -0500More and more states have started to either have open primaries, “jungle primaries”, or ranked choice voting. However, this doesn’t change how many Americans feel that our two-party systems is fundamentally flawed and can’t be fixed. Other’s choose not to vote because they aren’t willing to vote for the lesser of two evils. I have a more fundamental idea that would give voters a reason to vote: “None of the above!” If this choice won for an office, a new election would be held and all previous candidates would not be allowed to run again. Imagine the power this would give voters. It would empower them as they would no longer be beholden to candidates who cannot appeal to a much larger electorate.
