Ahtza Chavez, from New Mexico, believes this one reform forces those in power to listen to all their constituents. That's why they don't advocate for it.


"For people in power, it makes sense for their power not to be challenged in an open primary. Then there's not only the Democratic or GOP voters they have to worry about, but the general population. That's a big challenge for a lot of our electeds to say, 'Hey, I'm willing to do that,' because it puts them at risk."
