Citizen Spotlight: Real Americans?

David Cherry is a long-time voting rights activist and civil rights leader from Chicago. He believes independent voters aren't treated like real Americans.

"Independents are treated like we're not even real Americans. Even the fact that you have independent voters having to fight for the right to vote in publicly-financed primaries is just so outrageous. The Democratic and Republican Parties are two private institutions, but they run publicly financed campaigns that all voters pay for. Yet they want to decide who can and cannot participate. That is absolute voter suppression. That is an absolute violation of the spirit of the voting rights act."
